2 weeks ago Matt arranged a trip for some of the teens from Malambo orphanage to go visit an indigenous village. We are friends with the leader of the village, Phillipe. This village is called San Antonio, and is right next to the town of Gamboa. You have to take a short boat ride to get there. Phillipe heard about the orphan problem when we shared at Gamboa Union Church a while back. They were touched and wanting to know how they can help, which is very humbling. MORE>>>
About a month ago, Matt had the idea to take some kids out there. Phillipe was thrilled! So they worked out all the details, down to the gas cans for the boats, and it was a hit. The kids loved it, both from Malambo and out at the village. 10 teenage girls from Malambo went and there are about 15 kids out at the village.
The village children performed some cultural dancing, after which some of the kids at Malambo joined in! Philipe shared a Bible story about Zacchaeus in the tree. It was a great connection for these teens: Zacchaeus was a little guy, rejected, yet he was the one that Jesus chose to come down out of the tree and eat with him. Jesus looks at the heart and not outward appearances or rejection from others. The kids loved it! Especially since a lot of them are HIV positive. It was a timely message. Afterward, they had a fun game of soccer. Despite Matt and our friend Luigi's best efforts at helping the girls from Malambo, the kids in the village won! They are really good!
This was a fun day for the kids from Malambo. They were able to have a great cultural experience and a lot of fun, all at the same time. We are so thankful for our friend Philippe and others at San Antonio. Their heart to help the orphans is beautiful and pure. See some photos from the day by clicking here: Visit to Village.
